OVERVIEW

A complete circuit, discovering the biodiversity of southern Peru and knowing the daily life of the inhabitants of the southern regions of Peru.The three great regions of the country are in the program: the Coast, the Sierra and the Jungle. In addition to discovering the natural wealth, the ancient culture of Peru, we will also have the opportunity to share the experience with local families.

ITINERARY

Day 1: International flight-Lima Miraflores

Arrival in Lima, reception at the airport, and transfer to the hotel in the beautiful district of Miraflores.

Day 2: Lima-Paracas-Nasca

Early in the morning, departing by private transportation to Paracas. Where we will appreciate the Paracas Candelabro and navigate to the Ballestas Islands, which are a protected site, and breeding ground for thousands of sea lions and sea birds. After visiting the islands, lunch in a restaurant and a chance to taste typical Peruvian dishes. We return to the vehicle and travel to Nazca. Visits are planned along the way: a wine cellar and the Huacachina Oasis (possibility of doing Buggies and Sandboarding). Arrival to Nazca at the end of the afternoon and installation in the hotel.

Day 3: Nazca-Arequipa

After breakfast, a guided tour of the city passes through the aqueducts, a ceramic workshop, and the Antonini Museum. Overview of the enigmatic Nazca lines. Discovered by Paul Kosok in 1939, they constitute one of the greatest enigmas of world archaeology. Departure to Arequipa by private transportation in the afternoon. Arrival at Arequipa at night. Installation in the hotel.

Day 4: Arequipa

In the morning or in the afternoon, visit the city: the main square, the cathedral, the church, and the convent of the Company, as well as the monastery of Santa Catalina, an authentic little town in the heart of the city. End of the city tour pass through the Mirador de Yanahuara and Carmen Alto to enjoy an unbeatable view of the Andean terraces of the Arequipa countryside. The visit lasts half a day.

Day 5: Arequipa-Colca Canyon-Chivay

08:00 am departure from the hotel taking the road that leads to the Colca Canyon, in the heart of the Peruvian Andes dotted with peaks and volcanoes. I pass through the area of Pampa Cañahuas, a natural reserve for vicuñas and other Andean camelids (Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve). Stop in Patapampa, located at 4900 m altitude to admire the Ampato, Sabancaya, and Hualca-Hualca volcanoes. Arrive in Chivay and check in at the hotel.

Day 6: Chivay-Colca Canyon-Chivay-Puno

06:00 am, Breakfast and then walk to the Mirador de la Cruz del Condor to enjoy the depth of the Colca Canyon and admire the flight of the condors, return to Chivay passing through the watchtowers of Antahuilque, the cemetery pre-Inca with the hanging tombs of Choquetico, as well as the traditional towns of Maca and Yanque. Free lunch in Chivay. After lunch, transfer to Puno, by private transport, and without a guide. Check-in at the hotel.

Day 7: Puno-Uros-Taquile

In the morning, transfer to the Port of Puno. Navigation to the Uros, to discover these floating islands. Continuation of the circuit through Lake Titicaca, towards the island of Taquile, which is a privileged place, thanks to its archaeological remains, its places of worship, its festivals, and its rites. The island of Taquile is also known for its textile art, which is part of the daily activity of men and women of all ages. Reception by the family that welcomes us this day to later share a good meal in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. In the afternoon, I discovered the island and the daily life of the inhabitants, in the company of the guide.

Day 8: Taquile-Amantaní-Llachón

After a typical breakfast shared with the family, departure by boat to the island of Amantaní. Arrival on the island and a short walk through the hills of Pachapapa and Pachamama, in the company of the guide. Lunch in Amantani and navigation to the Llachón peninsula. Reception and installation. Afternoon free to take a short walk and admire the sunset. Dinner and night with the family.

Day 9: Llachón-Puno

After breakfast, share the daily life of the inhabitants of the island and participation in certain activities, such as fishing. These activities are an opportunity to discover this way of life so different from the rest of the world. Lunch with the family. Departure by boat to Puno. Arrive in Puno and transfer to the hotel.

Day 10: Puno-Cusco

In the morning, I departed by private transport to Cusco. Up to the La Raya pass (4338 masl), the route takes place in the heart of the Altiplano. Arrival in Sicuani, meeting with the guide, and lunch. Some visits are planned along the way: Raqchi and the Church of Andahuaylillas, the Sistine Chapel of Latin America. Arrival in Cusco at the end of the day and accommodation at the hotel.

Day 11: Cusco-Tambomachay-Puka Pukara-Q'enqo-Saqsaywaman-Cusco

08:00 a.m. Departure in the morning in a private vehicle to the archaeological center of Tambomachay, visit the site, and walk to Cusco, passing through a small valley. Along the way, visit the sites of Puka Pukara, Q'enqo, and Saqsaywaman, an imposing megalithic stone construction that was once the main temple of Hanan Qosqo (Cusco above). Back to Cusco, visit the city: the typical neighborhood of San Blas, passing through the stone of the 12 angles and the main square. Visit to the Qorikancha, the ancient Temple of the Sun, and the Cathedral. The rest of the time is free.

Day 12: Cusco-Wayupata

In private transportation, transfer to Huayopata. Arrived at the home of Mrs. Julia and her family at approximately noon, lunch with the family. In the afternoon, discovered of the different crops produced by Julia and her husband José. An afternoon of discovery of the coffee extraction process: collection, selection, roasting, and grinding. Finally, it will be time to enjoy a good coffee. Free time and then dinner with the hosts.

Day 13: Wayupata-Cocalmayo-Hydroelectric-Machu Picchu Pueblo

Continuation of the circuit in private transport. Arrived at the Cocalmayo thermal baths, which are excellent and we highly recommend them. The route continues to the Machu Picchu Hydroelectric Power Plant, at km 122 of the railway. From there, train to Machu Picchu Pueblo. The journey can also be done on foot (3 hours). Arrive at Machu Picchu Pueblo and check in to the hotel.

Day 14: Machupicchu Town-Ollantaytambo

Ascent by bus for 40 minutes to the site that dominates the valley and guided tour. After the visit, free time will be spent strolling through the alleys. Descent to Machu Picchu Pueblo on foot or by bus, at your own pace. In the afternoon or early evening, train to Ollantaytambo. Arrival at Ollantaytambo and installation in the hotel.

Day 15: Ollantaytambo-Pisac-Cusco

Visit to the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo, where some of the most beautiful Inca constructions are located. The visit in the morning is ideal because there are few people. After the visit, take a road trip along the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Arriving in Pisaq, visiting the archaeological site and the craft market, we will have lunch in the town of Pisac. Return to Cusco at the end of the afternoon.

Day 16: Cusco-Chinchero-Moray-Salineras de Maras-Cusco

Departure to the town of Chinchero, with a marked indigenous character. Continuation of the circuit towards the site of Moray, probably an agricultural laboratory that was once used for the acclimatization of products, we continue towards the Salinas de Maras. It is a unique spectacle that brilliantly demonstrates human ingenuity, which has been capable of setting up an open-air salt mine, at more than 3000m of altitude. Return to Cusco at the end of the day.

Day 17: Cusco-Puerto Maldonado-Eco Amazon Lodge

Transfer to Cusco airport and then flight Cusco-Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, the Capital of Biodiversity of Peru, our representative will be waiting for you holding a board with your name on it. Then we will start our program, with a bus tour around the city.
Then we will go to Puerto Capitanía, where our boat will wait for you in which we will navigate the Lower Madre de Dios River (Serpentine River) until we reach our hostel, located thirty kilometers from the city of Puerto Maldonado.
On the way, you will be able to observe rural properties for agricultural and livestock activities near the city. If the weather is nice, you will see colorful plants such as giant-flowered heliconias, and the possibility of spotting animals such as capybaras, alligators, terrapins, herons, cormorants, carrion birds, and birds of prey.
Upon arrival at our lodge, you will be greeted with a delicious Amazonian tropical fruit nectar and taken to your comfortable room (bungalow), reserved for the occasion. Once installed, a hearty lunch will await you in our cozy dining room with a rustic design.
In the afternoon, you will be led by our specialized guide through a conveniently signposted interpretive trail to Cocha Caimán, a small lagoon where you will have the opportunity to observe the black and white caiman, efficient predators located at the top of the food chain. They live on the abundant water fauna of the lake, represented by fish species.
Upon returning to the hostel, a delicious dinner will await you and you will have free time to share unforgettable moments in our bar, equipped with an excellent table games room and stocked with all the drinks you can imagine.
The nocturnal fauna will be in charge of lulling you to the melody of an infinity of songs and voices of various birds.

Day 18: Lodge - Apu Victor Lake – Monkey Island -Lodge

After breakfast, we will start a walk towards the deep forest, following prepared trails, properly preserved and signposted. On the way, we will cross the riparian forest towards higher forests, and then we will descend to floodplain forests, to climb again to hill forests. During the journey, we will witness the most varied range of flora and fauna species in the wild.
Along the way, you will identify species of fruit, forest, and medicinal trees that support animal and human populations in the Amazon forests. Among these stand out the aguaje, the mahogany, the chestnut, the catahua, the cedar, the cético, the copaiba, and the shihuahuaco.

With luck and in silence, you will be able to spot larger mammals, such as the sachavaca and the huangana; rodents such as the giant otter, the capybara, the majaz and the armadillo; primates such as the howler monkey and the lion puffin, black martin or capuchin; reptiles like the iguana and the jergon; amphibians such as the toad and birds such as the mountain guan, the partridge, the golden parakeet, and the blue, yellow and red macaw.

In the rainforest, you will appreciate insects such as butterflies (Lepidoptera), beetles (Coleoptera), crickets, cicadas, ants, centipedes, and millipedes of various species.
We arrive at the majestic Apu Víctor Lake surrounded by immense swamps and gigantic trees. Amazon viewpoint (huge observation platform), from which you will enjoy a panoramic view over the lake, observing Parrots, Macaws, Toucans, Camungos, Shanshos, Herons, and other animals such as Alligators, Turtles, etc.
Varieties of fish enter the Apu Víctor Lake with the floods of the rainy season (increasing). In addition, there are other species of fauna associated with the lake, such as the motelo, the matamata, the charapita de agua al, the friar, the chozna, the red deer, the añuje and the giant otters of the Amazon Forest.
Back at the lodge, a refreshing lunch will await you. In the afternoon, accompanied by our specialized guide, we will visit the Isla de los Monos, located a few minutes from the lodge in the heart of the Madre de Dios River. This island displays a huge variety of exuberant flora and is home to numerous specimens of primates, such as the maquisapa, the capuchin, and the puffin and lion. In addition to other species of small mammals, such as the coati (Nasua), the squirrel, and a huge variety of colorful birds.
Finally, we will complete our visit to the island, enjoying the sunset, with the most impressive sunset in the jungle.
Back at the hostel, you can enjoy an exquisite dinner.

Day 19: Lodge – Lost Cocha - Lodge

After breakfast, we will start an adventure through the virgin jungle, accompanied by our local guide, we will go on a walk into the deep forest: we will go through well-preserved prepared trails of our interpretive circuit. On the way, we will cross temporary water courses called caños, through bridges in very good condition and we will witness the widest range of flora and fauna species in the wild. We will get to know a great variety of ornamental plants of incomparable beauty.
On the way to the Lost Cocha, we will identify species of fruit, forest, and medicinal trees that support animal populations in the Amazon forests.
With luck, we will be able to spot larger mammals such as the jaguar or otorongo, the sachavaca, and the white-lipped peccary; rodents such as the giant otter, the capybara, the majaz, and the armadillo; primates such as the howler monkey and the puffin; reptiles like the iguana and the jergon; amphibians such as the toad and birds such as the mountain guan, the partridge, the golden parakeet, and the red, blue and yellow macaw.

Once in the Lost Cocha, we will ascend to a huge observation platform. From this viewpoint, you will appreciate the enormous area covered by this magical place where you can appreciate two types of aguajales: dense and mixed.
Then we will take a pleasant walk around the Lost Lake and if luck is with you, you will be able to spot the ""giant otter"" Pteronurabrasiliensis, the largest of its kind and one of the most impressive animals in the Amazon.
Back at the hostel, you can enjoy an exquisite lunch
In the afternoon, free to take pictures around the hostel, you will also have the chance to visit the botanical garden and observe our medicinal and fruit plants.
At night you can taste our delicious dinner. If your body allows it, you can enjoy a fun night in our bar and games room.

Day 20: Eco Amazonia Lodge-Puerto Maldonado-Lima Miraflores

After a restful night's rest, the powerful voice of the howler monkey will warn you, as soon as you wake up, that you are still in its domain and that it is time to leave. A delicious breakfast awaits you in our dining room, before starting the return to Puerto Maldonado.

Day 21: Lima Miraflores-International Flight

Free day in Lima to enjoy a little more of Peru and its magic.
